Mentors

St. Mark’s has now been involved in a mentoring partnership with Evergreen Elementary School for many years! Volunteers are paired with students who have been identified as “at risk”. These children may have special need for academic, social and/or emotional support. Mentors meet with their students once a week at regularly scheduled times during the school day, spending about 30 minutes per child (most mentors are matched with two students, meaning about a one-hour commitment per week). Many of our mentors have worked with the same students over several years, forming long-term relationships that provide encouragement and stability through otherwise uncertain circumstances.

High school juniors and seniors as well as adults are encouraged to become mentors—you will learn so much and make such a difference in the lives of some very special children. Just complete the information below and return to the church office as soon as possible. Returning mentors also need to submit an application so that your availability can be confirmed. The schools will match each volunteer with students who can meet at times you specify for convenience. Basic training/orientation meetings will be scheduled in September and actual mentoring usually begins by mid-October.

If you have questions, please call the church and leave a message for Daisy Byrd or email Handerson@stmarksmidlo.com.
